Tourist Destinations of Rajasthan Udaipur Haldighati 'Haldighati' means turmeric colored vale is named so because of its soft yellow soil which resembles turmeric powder when crumbled. 'Haldighati' is the battlefield site, which witnessed the historic battle between Maharana Pratap & superior Mughal Forces of Akhbar. Situated 40 Kms north of Udaipur,
Haldighati, is where Maharana Pratap defied the superior Mughal forces of
Akhbar in 1576. The site is marked by a small chhatri which commemorates
the warrior's horse, Chetak. Although badly wounded and exhausted, this
brave horse carried Maharana Pratap to safety before collapsing and dying.
